For people who already have firearms – if energy weapons were commercially available, would you use them?

Microwave hand beamers, ultrasonic projectors, lasers, particle beams… if hand-held energy devices, or electrically-propelled projectile guns, not that dissimilar to firearms, became available commercially – would you use them?

Assuming that price, cost per firing, suitability for use for hunting or self defense, etc., were similar to that of currently conventional firearms?

Or are you emotionally committed to lead and explosions?

Just curious.
We have the example from the 1960s of the failure of the Gyrojet rocket pistol. It was a radical departure, though while many blamed its failure not on any conservatism of gun owners but on the $20 per round cost (in 1965 money!).

The Gyrojet failed because it couldn’t hurt a person within thirty feet. Rockets are funky to shoot….but they have a bad tendency to pick up speed very slowly. They bounce off of close in targets and go farting across the floor like a balloon with a hole in it.

Modern firearms didn’t kill blackpowder shooting….blackpowder shooting didn’t kill archery….archery didn’t kill knives and sharp sticks etc. What makes you think all of history is going to change for that?
