How thick does stainless steel tubing have to be to cut threads in it with a pipe threader?

I’m working on a project using 3/8″ stainless steel tubing. I need to cut some threads into it. I was wondering what the minimum wall thickness of tubing was that I could cut threads into. It has to be as thin as possible so that I can continue to bend the tubing with a hand bender. Thanks in advance.

be a little more specific! what are you doing with it? will it need to hold pressure or is it something ornamental? depending on use, you may be able to just use a hand die and heavy wall tubing. approx. .049 +/- is bendable by hand, done it many times with RIDGID benders, what you need to keep in mind is pipe is measured ID, tube is measured OD, so 3/8 tube would have to be threaded with a 1/8″ die, many different threads also (npt, bspt, ect.) make sure die is same thread as what your screwing it into.

their $ 30 hr. guys how to bend 3/8 ridgid copper without breaking it (for $7 hr.) go fiqure! tried for years to get into big 3 and never could.
