How can I set up a time stamp button or formula on Excel?

I keep a log on an Excel spreadsheet and want to have a formula or function that enters the current date and time by filling in cell or clicking a button? I’ve tried a couple formulas that enter the date/time when I fill in another cell, but the date/time updates. Any ideas?

Set up a macro with something similar to this and you can assign it to a button

Sub DateInCurrentCell()
ActiveCell.FormulaR1C1 = Now()
End Sub

That will put the current date and time into the currently active cell
