What kind of sewing machine to buy for someone who has never used one?

My sister wants a sewing machine for his B-day. It never used one before and I'm not sure what to do .. I wanted to stay at or about $ 100.00 Is it worth to get that would be cheap or a gift cert. be a better option?

A source of information is go to the local high school and talk to a teacher of home economics. Another source would be a good sewing machine. They have used / rebuilt cheaply. Or go local Second-hand / stores used. At thrift stores, where people donate the tax, they often work very well. You can try the first and / or take to a repair shop and check back often and will advise you for free.
