Can I use an angle grinder to cut guttering (roof spouting)?

Some websites say it’s not a good idea.

I’m about to replace the guttering (spouting as some would know it) on my house using the galvanised down pipes and aluminium guttering… just wondering if I can use an angle grinder to cut them to size or should I juse use a hack saw?

you can use an angle grinder. What i would recommend actually is a cutoff saw with a carbide blade if you have one. Standard wood blades, although they slightly shorten the life of the blade, it works. To keep the pipe nice and square you can use a board inside of the pipe to give you something to press against. Angle grinders typically don’t work that well on aluminum because they rely on the rapid oxidation of iron alloys. With aluminum you’ll get a lot of “Clogged” wheels with a grinder. if you have access to a band saw that can go out to the size you need, that is also an excellent alternative.
