How do I remove the aluminum frame from an old window?

I am in the process of demolishing the upper half of a non bearing wall in my family room area; I have removed the glass from an old window that was left in the wall when the family room was added. now I need to know how the best way to remove the old aluminum frame?

I have a recip. saw; a jig saw; a cat’s paw, a hammer, and various misc. tools.

I am a 60 + woman on a fixed budget and can’t afford to hire help at this time and want to do as much of this as possible. thanks so much for your help.

I’m 58 and recently replaced all the aluminum windows in my home. Using the tools you stated, use the claw of your hammer to pry up the old frame, then use your reciprocating saw to cut it. The frame of the window has been nailed to the rough opening, so you have some choices; remove the nails and pry up each side of the frame or get enough leverage on the frame to tear the aluminum away from the nails. Either way, you may need to find some extra help or a big pry bar to increase your leverage. Good luck!
